Miriam Lamboy
We moved to Bushwick in 1964. I was 5 years old. I remember how nice the houses looked. There was a gas station on one end of the block and a cabinet maker on the other end. Neither one exists any longer.
I remember the night of the blackout in 1977. My oldest son was just a year old. We sat outside in the front yard and watched Broadway burn. Such a sad sight. People were devastating their own neighborhood. Stealing furniture and appliances, and believing that it was ok.
I currently work for the City of New York, actually since 1989, for the Dept of Social Services. I did not get my BA until 2004. I belong to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where I was baptized, did my confirmation and first communion. My children also.
I teach Sunday School, I am a Deacon, commissioned by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. As deacons we assist the Pastor in any way. We serve in a nursing home once a month.
I belong to the Community Board #4, and I attend the Citizen’s Police Academy.
