Ana Irizarry Nieves (Nelly Irizarry)
We come to live at 464 Bushwick Ave in 1960’s. In 1960’s , when I got here it was like a Dream because I never saw many lights and houses and buildings in my life. When I saw one it was like something strange to me. But people were very friendly. But it was hard for me because we didn’t speak the language (English) and when I went to school it was very hard for me, . We felt like we were rich when we got to N.Y.C.
The worst part was winter. We didn’t have no coats or nothing warm. People that we meet help us – and that was very nice.
In the project my sister Aida got assaulted in the elevator with a gun in her head and she was with her kids they were small and that was very scary.
50 years ago we come from P.R. to N.Y.C I love N.Y. and I will live here all my life, If God Permitted.
